About Me
That’s me and my little brother!
I’m a survivor
I grew up in a family where there was alcohol and drug abuse, domestic violence, mental illness and poverty. As a young girl, I felt as if I was different from everyone else and I was ashamed of what was happening in my home.
I experienced severe anxiety and depression when I was in college which resulted in more feelings of shame and embarrassment. Fortunately, I found a wonderful therapist who helped me to understand my feelings. I came to understand that what I had experienced as a child was trauma. The lingering effect of trauma impacted my sense of safety, security and self esteem.
Therapy helped me to shed layers of shame, learn ways to calm my nervous system and to create a new life for myself. I am living proof that our past does not determine our future.
I wanted to help others feel the same so I became a therapist.
Hi, I’m Beverly.
I am a Therapist in North Carolina. I see individuals in my office in Cornelius, NC and virtually anywhere in South Carolina and Florida. I am committed to helping people heal from painful experiences so that they can create the life that they’ve always wanted.
In my practice, you will be supported as you courageously explore the parts of you that hold sadness, emotional pain and insecurities.
I help people resolve symptoms of trauma, anxiety, depression and grief so that they can move on with their life and finally…
thrive!
You’ve Tried Therapy Before But Nothing Seemed to “Stick”
Every session felt like a rehash of the last one
You learned some things about yourself but never figured out why you are in so much pain and distress or what to do about it.
The only tools your therapist offered were deep breathing, journaling or cognitive behavioral therapy.
You weren’t making real improvement - even after months or years in therapy.
Was your therapist more intrigued by your story but less helpful with helping you heal from your experiences?
You don’t feel you’ve ever really done deep work to obtain deep healing - and you’re ready now.
What Therapy Looks Like With Me
A safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel all of the feels but get the relief you are hoping for.
This is your Life. We are not playing games.
In therapy with me, you will be supported as you explore issues that you may have been avoiding for years. My approach is to hold you accountable for the work that you said you were ready to do. However, we will always go at your pace. I get it. Thinking about your past can be uncomfortable. Engaging in deep reflection can be uncomfortable. But both are necessary in order to heal. The good news is that you don’t have to talk about the details of traumatic events in order to heal. This is where EMDR, Brainspotting and Internal Family Systems therapies come in. There is a way to heal emotional wounds, find relief and feel better about yourself without re-living your trauma.
Therapy sessions with me are not filled with just talking. You can do that with your best friend. During your sessions with me, there will be times where I’ll ask you to pause and reflect. Intentional silence is part of the therapeutic journey. I will ask you to pay attention to what you are noticing in your system as we unpack the difficult issues. My goal is for you to leave each therapy session feeling as if you are getting closer to getting your life back.
I offer traditional weekly therapy sessions (55 minutes) which may be covered by your insurance (BCBS or Aetna only). I also offer Extended Therapy sessions (Intensives) for which I do not accept insurance.
Show up exactly as you are.
Get Comfortable
Feel free to bring a drink or a snack. Most likely, I will be sipping on my favorite beverage - coffee.
Bring a blanket, a special object, a photo of someone special. If that’s what your nervous system needs to feel safe - it is welcomed in this space.
If seeing your therapist in jeans and a T shirt makes you uncomfortable then I am not the therapist for you. You may even see me in workout attire. I practice what I preach - physical movement is part of the healing process.
The way that I dress has zero to do with my ability to help you. The way that you show up has zero to do with your ability to do the work and to heal. Wear clothes that you feel good in, whether that is workout attire, shorts, jeans…come as your authentic self.
